Your skin is in its restorative phase during the seven or eight hours that you sleep. There is no environmental threat like sunrays or dust or sweat to damage your skin which puts it in a better position to repair and regenerate itself. This is also the time when you can treat your skin with the right catalysts to speed up the restoration process.

I don’t want to lie to you by saying that your skin would get rid of all those acne marks and pimples in one night by following these steps. But I promise that these simple tips can help you take a step forward in that direction. All you need to do to wake up feeling gorgeous is make the best use of those sleep hours by treating your skin with some very effective beauty tips.
Remember that you still need to follow your evening skincare regimen in addition to following these tips. So without further ado, let’s hop on to know the best overnight skincare habits that can totally change your skincare game:
1. Drink Lots Of Water
As permeable as your skin is during the sleep hours, it also happens to lose some of its hydration during this time. Given that no amount of moisturizer can provide you with what water can, be sure to drink plenty of it during the day and before going to bed. While health experts and dermatologists recommend drinking at least 2 litres of water a day, you can substitute some of it with juices and citrus fruits.
Remember that your liquid intake during the daytime works its magic at night. So stay hydrated if you want a healthy and supple-looking skin.
2. Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize!
Apart from drinking water, it’s important that you provide your skin with the necessary hydration on the outside. As your skin is more receptive to skincare products at night, feel free to use rich formulations of moisturizer that are infused with the nutrients your skin needs.
Use a ceramide rich moisturizer to help speed up the skin repair process. I use CeraVe Skin Renewing Night cream which has peptides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. For my arms, hands and legs, I use CeraVe moisturing cream that is infused with nourishing ingredients to keep the skin healthy and hydrated. For my lips, I use LANEIGE lip balm.
3. Always Double Cleanse
Double cleaning is important as it helps your skin get rid of all the impurities and pollutants that it might have caught during the day. You don’t want to risk sleeping with any impurities on your skin as it can clog the pores and cause pimples and acne.
In order to double cleanse, use a cotton round and an oil-based cleanser/cleansing balm/micellar water to gently wipe your face before washing it with a gel-based hydrating cleanser. Make sure that you moisturize your face properly while going through your evening skincare routine to regain the moisture that your skin might have lost due to cleansing.
4. Pamper Your Skin Before Sleep
Evenings come with more time to relax and pamper yourself. Use this time to treat your skin with a hydrating face mask or a clay mask to help it relax and rejuvenate itself. You can also massage your face, body and hair with a Gua Sha Comb to improve the blood circulation in your skin.
My ideal ‘skin pampering routine’ goes something like this:
– Mondays and Thursdays: Treat your skin with a hydrating face mask. I have a huge collection of The Face Shop face masks that I usually buy during BOGO sales.
– Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays: Give your skin a 30-minute-long massage session with a Gua Sha Comb.
– Wednesdays and Saturdays: Apply clay mask and let it sit for 15 minutes before going through my evening skincare routine.
5. Always Hydrate The Under-Eye Area
Your eyes, if left dry and dehydrated, can make your entire face look pale and dull. So even if you are too tired to go through your evening skincare routine, make sure that you at least hydrate your under-eye area with a caffeinated eye cream.
On days when I feel tired and wish to skip my skincare routine, I just cleanse my face and moisturize it with a hydrating night cream and eye gel.
Cheat days are okay. Sometimes.
6. Use A Satin Pillowcase
With all the benefits that a satin pillowcase brings to the skin, it has become the need of the hour. Unlike the traditional cotton pillowcases, satin pillowcases are gentle on the skin and repel the dirt and pollutants.
I simply can’t imagine switching back to the old cotton pillowcases. Satin pillowcases are a living magic!
7. Sleep With A Humidifier On
A humidifier helps in replenishing the moisture in the air which eventually passes on to your skin. This device becomes all the more important during winters when the air is dry.
Make sure that you keep a humidifier in your bedroom while sleeping to wake up feeling radiant. I sometimes infuse my humidifier with an essential oil for a relaxing good night’s sleep.
8. Get Your Beauty Sleep
Well, no amount of skincare or beauty products can work its magic if you aren’t letting your skin sleep. As mentioned on this blog a million times, your skin repairs itself during the sleep hours. So, if you aren’t sleeping well, you are simply stopping your skin from regaining its health.
While health experts recommend getting at least eight hours of sleep every night, anything above six is acceptable. Your skin deserves it after everything it goes through during the day.
So there you have it! Now you will probably blame me for burdening you with another set of skincare tips to follow. But once you start experiencing the benefits of these simple tips, they’ll become an inseparable part of your daily routine. You just need to be diligent in following these tips if you wish to present yourself with a glowing skin.
